International Women’s Day is the perfect day to celebrate accomplishments. Thanks to Sue Ryan and Gail Moorhead for helping complete the ‘cases for caring’ and ‘velux’ bags for hospital patients. Great job! We had fun doing it !
Personally; I completed a full set of sheer curtains ( 60 pinch pleats in a 12 m wide sheer to cover the patio doors. ) Best part is I bought the fabric for $36. What do you think? The pleats do not show up very well here. Pretty proud of myself however.
The Garment Bag got embroidered and here it is. Off to make another one. Last of all, but the most exciting for me, is the fact I received Honourable Mention in the Contest run by Sandra Betzina. I entered my Jacket V # 1364 and it won !
I often use the selvedge edges of the fabric as I did in this one, Sometimes the edge is just to pretty to cut off. Of course it takes some play to add the selvedge to curves and corners and a little trim to cover up joins is needed. I love it and now on my way to sew the dress to co-ordinate.
If you want to learn more about this technique I will be teaching a class this Spring so sign up soon. Pick your day.
Pant fitting has also been a popular request so again it will be held Wednesday afternoons for 1-4, so email to register.

New ways with antique linens. I used this Butterick Pattern to create the delightul vest above and added my own touches for fun in the way of recycled linen napkins and table runner. The table topper is a mix of lace and crocheted doilies.
March is fun month to sew up just about anything you can think of.

As Valentine Day approaches I have some quick and easy ideas to sew for giving. This sweet wristlet is a Kwik Sew Pattern that I made more fun by adding some machine embroidery. As it stores change or keys on your wrist it is great for the loved one who enjoys exercising or just going for long walks with the dog.
This one is an idea taken from a picture I found somewhere on line. Just take two men’s ties and sew them opposite points together for about 14 inches from the pointed ends. Fold in half and stich up right sides together for 7 inches each side. Turn RSO and tie narrow ends together and hang over your neck across body to hold your water bottle when walking.
This last one is a Luggage Tag from Baby Lock. I added some monograms and applique to brighten them up. They wrap around the handle of your suitcase and make it easy to identify on the airport carousel. Sewn out of felt or vellux with the addition of Velcro to fasten.
Don’t forget to register for the upcoming SEWING WITH KNITS WORKSHOP. Thursday January 28 from 10 to 1, I will be showing you all the tricks to sewing with knits.
Class fee is $45 for the session and it fills up quickly so book ahead.
